HI - I’M CLAIRE!

I just want to travel and spend time with my dog, and I’m here to help you do the same!

I’m a slow travel enthusiast living in Asheville, NC with my husband, Max, and my corgi, Elliot.

I love to travel and hike, and I spend my nights and weekends showing Elliot as much of the world as possible.

MY PHILOSOPHY

I believe in slow travel. Maybe it’s the homebody in me, but I would rather take my time in my travels and leave free time in my itineraries than plan out my entire trip down to the minute.

Some of my favorite memories have happened when I’ve had time to be fully present where I am - from giving myself time to leisurely sip a glass of champagne overlooking the canals in Copenhagen, to having a free morning in Charleston, SC and spontaneously booking a carriage tour around the city, to taking a walking tour and actually having time to go back and visit a few of the incredible restaurants that I walked past.

I think it’s important to travel how you like to live day-to-day. Which for me, means having a comfortable home base, finding a balance between adventure and relaxation, and creating a life that I love with my corgi crew.

19 U.S. States

As of 2024 I have visited:

4 U.S. National Parks

3 Countries

I Believe:

That it’s equally important to love where you are while dreaming about where you want to go.

There’s no such thing as bad weather.

Experiences are worth more than possessions, and experiences with your dog are the greatest kind.

And when in doubt, always order the extra taco / pizza slice / scoop of ice cream with a pup cup on the side.

FAQ

  • Elliot is a tri-colored Pembroke Welsh corgi.

  • Yes. As a young child, I had an extremely emotional reaction to the movie Babe (with the talking pig). I eat mostly vegan at home, but also love a wood-fired pizza and cheese board. And trying new foods is one of my favorite parts of travel! The majority of my trip planning revolves around where I’m going to eat and when.

All restaurants that are included in my travel guides have fantastic vegetarian and vegan options, BUT most of these restaurants are not entirely plant-based. There’s something for everyone at the table.

  • Joshua Tree, CA and Copenhagen, Denmark. I also love taking Elliot to The Outer Banks, or anywhere with a sandy beach for him to dig!

  • Iceland is at the top of my international list, and I am planning to go in 2024! It would also be an absolute dream to sail to Antarctica and the Falkland Islands.

Within the United States - Alaska and Seattle. I live for an overcast, rainy day.

And, I would love to take Elliot to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and Best Friends Roadhouse and Mercantile in Kanab, UT. Every stay supports the sanctuary’s mission of bringing all rescues and shelters around the country to no-kill by 2025.

  • ABSOLUTELY. While I do try to include dog-friendly restaurants / activities / lodging in all of my guides, they can be used by all travelers!

Let’s face it, sometimes it’s more relaxing for me to go to dinner without Elliot trying to herd everything that walks by! I also enjoy traveling to more remote places that are not dog-friendly, or those that require an airplane to get to. My guides include as much information as possible for you to have an incredible trip, regardless of who (or what) is accompanying you!
